This Privacy Policy explains how Kite (“we”, “us”) collects, uses and protects personal information when you use kitekids.co.za, in line with the Protection of Personal Information Act, 2013 (POPIA).

1. Responsible party

Remote South (Pty) Ltd operates Kite. For POPIA requests contact: hello@kitekids.co.za.

2. Information we collect

• Account data: email address, display name, profile photo, authentication provider (email/password or Google).
• Usage data: saved activities, reviews, visit history, search presets, and similar in-app actions linked to your account.
• Device & log data:IP address, browser type, pages viewed and approximate location when you use features like “Near me” (with your permission).
• Communications: messages you send to our support email.

3. How we use information

We use personal information to:

• Provide and improve the Service (accounts, wishlists, reviews);
• Personalise discovery (e.g. recently viewed, saved searches);
• Communicate with you about your account or support requests;
• Keep the platform safe (moderation, fraud prevention);
• Understand how the Service is used so we can improve it (analytics);
• Comply with legal obligations.

4. Lawful basis (POPIA)

We process personal information where necessary to perform our contract with you, with your consent (e.g. location permissions), or where we have a legitimate interest that is not overridden by your rights (e.g. analytics, security, fraud prevention).

5. Sharing & processors

We use trusted service providers, including:

• Supabase — database, authentication and file storage (EU-hosted infrastructure);
• Mapbox — maps and geocoding when you use map features;
• Google— optional sign-in via Google OAuth, and Google Analytics 4 for website traffic and usage reporting (data processed on Google's US-based servers);
• PostHog — product analytics (EU-hosted) for understanding in-app behaviour such as search usage and wishlist activity, loaded only with your consent;
• Sentry — error monitoring to diagnose technical issues (collects stack traces and browser type, not personal data);
• Paystack — payment processing for the Host Bundle subscription.

We do not sell your personal information. We may disclose information if required by law or to protect rights and safety.

6. Retention

We keep account data while your account is active. You may request deletion of your account and associated data — we will honour POPIA erasure requests subject to legal retention requirements.

7. Security

We use industry-standard measures including encrypted connections (HTTPS), row-level security on our database, and access controls. No system is perfectly secure; please use a strong, unique password.

8. Your POPIA rights

You may request to:

• Access the personal information we hold about you;
• Correct inaccurate information (via profile settings or email);
• Delete your account and associated data;
• Object to processing or lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator.

9. Cookies & analytics

We use the following cookies and local storage on kitekids.co.za:

• Session tokens (Supabase) — essential for keeping you signed in. Cannot be declined without breaking sign-in.
• Recently viewed & preferences— stored in your browser's local storage to remember recently viewed activities and saved search filters. No server-side tracking.
• Google Analytics 4— loads on all pages to measure traffic sources, page views, and general usage patterns. Uses Google's cookies to distinguish sessions. You can opt out via Google's opt-out browser add-on.
• PostHog (EU-hosted) — product analytics for understanding in-app behaviour. Loaded only with your consent when prompted. Declining does not affect core features.

We do not use analytics or monitoring data for advertising.

10. Children

Kite is intended for parents and guardians. Accounts should be created by adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children under 13.

11. Changes

We may update this policy. The “Last updated” date at the top will change when we do. Material changes may also be communicated by email or in-app notice.
